The seminar "The role of geographic information in statistical production processes and data dissemination"

During 24-28 October, Janusz Dygaszewicz, expert in Geographic Information System (GIS) from the Central Statistical Office of Poland, is in a mission at the National Bureau of Statistics.

During the mission recent trends and best practices used in the National Statistical Institutes in EU regarding the spatial statistical analysis and use of statistical cartography were presented.

Janusz Dygaszewicz spoke about the role of geographic information in statistical process, geocoding and integration of statistical data with spatial data, use the GIS tools for data collection and monitoring field work, the processing and data dissemination. It has also been presented the statistical Geoportal as an example of a platform for spatial analysis and dissemination of statistical maps.

"Using GIS is important not only for the data dissemination but also in the production process" say Janusz Dygaszewics recommending electronic data collection using digital maps.

During the mission a meeting with colleagues from the State Enterprise "Cadastru" will be organized.

At the end of the mission, the expert will come up with recommendations regarding the introduction of GIS technology and design of a statistical Geoportal. 

The event is part of the EU project "Improving regional statistics in the Republic of Moldova". The project started on November 10, 2014 with a duration of 2 years.
